“Three
young guys stayed across the street from my house. One of my friends usually
parked on our side of the street, but one day he happened to park on their side
so I was over there talking to him. A truck came through shooting at the other three
individuals and a bullet hit me. I got shot in the neck. I was nineteen. It changed me ‘cause I almost died. Kinda
woke me up.
It
showed me how sensitive life is. One minute you’re here and the next you’re
gone. It opened my eyes because I was close to death.”
“What
have you done differently since then?”
“I
just preach to people whenever I get the opportunity. Like my little brothers
and sisters, I talk to them constantly. They’re doing good in school and stuff
so I’m doing a pretty good job pointing them in the right direction.”
“What
do you tell them?”
“Stay
true, stay focused. Live life in a positive manner. Stay away from negativity. ‘Cause
if you be around a negative crowd, it will eventually come amongst you. So surround
yourself with positivity.”
